Delkia is an expanding SME based in West Cumbria.  We are currently seeking a Lead Modelling and Simulation Engineer [LME] to join our engineering team.
 
We are proud of our reputation for delivering safe, high quality projects, on time and on budget, across the Defence and Nuclear Sector, we serve as an intelligent multi-disciplinary Systems Integration (SI) Engineering and Technology organisation.
 
Expertise

The LME will provide leadership in the use of modelling and simulation to explore the problem domain and to identify creative solutions to system control, image processing and recognition and navigation challenges.  The LME will act as the company’s key technical interface for modelling and system design with the other engineering functions, reporting directly to the Systems Integration Manager (SIM). 
 
Successful candidate will be meticulous, methodical and analytical. The LME will be the primary point of contact for the development strategy, leading and mentoring other engineers in model-based development.  LME will be technically competent, predominantly in Systems Engineering, but also have a good engineering background/experience of other design considerations for adequate guidance and decision making.   Previous experience in the nuclear sector is desirable, but not necessary.

  • Be self-starting and proactive to contribute to a highly effective management team.
  • Be able to think holistically and support other sectors such as nuclear. 
Skills and Qualifications​
  • Systems engineering skills:
  • Requirements
    • Rigorous understand of requirements capture, management and processing.
    • Robust management of traceability, verification methodologies and compliance management and recording strategies.
    • Working knowledge of DOORS required
  • Analysis
    • Sound underlying analytical and mathematical knowledge to be able to define the problem in order to conduct trade off studies, parameter sweeps and optimisation.
    • Generate robust reports using sound analytical methods to discuss the problem, the solution, trade-offs and recommendations going forward.
  • Design
    • Model-based design skills
    • Strong MATLAB and Simulink skills for algorithm development and system design skills
    • Familiarity with classical control theory would be helpful but not necessary.
    • Practical working knowledge of automated code generation techniques, and design choices that affect code performance.
    • Good understanding of electro-optics and radiometry to conduct sensor trade-off studies and specify sensor systems.
    • Use of continuous integration and continuous delivery systems to enable regular deployment of models to hardware.
  • Correctness of design
    • Practical knowledge of test and verification methodologies including formal methods.
    • Use of simulation to capture scenarios to develop success criteria.
  • Safety Analysis
    • An knowledge of functional failure and hazard analysis is highly desirable
    • Failure analysis techniques such as FHA, FMEA
  • Regulatory Awareness
    • ISO IEC 15288 - Systems Engineering
    • DO-178C - Software Considerations in Airborne Systems and Safety Certification
    • DO-331 - Model-Based Development and Verification
    • ARP5745A - Guidelines for Development of civil aircraft and systems
    • IEC 61508 - Functional Safety of Electrical / Electronic / Programmable Electronic Safety-related systems
  • At least 10 years' experience in a modelling role
  • Degree qualified
  • A master’s degree in systems engineering (or similar) would be preferable. 
  • Chartered status through the IET / INCOSE
  • Outstanding communication skills with sound business-related knowledge
  • Ability to support colleagues at all levels effectively and professionally even when presented with extreme circumstances.
  • Excellent presentation skills 
Candidates must be a British National and be able to meet security clearance.  Additional Psychometric testing may also be carried out with full background checks.
