Job Description Summary

The Lead Hardware Electronics Design Engineer will be accountable for functional, business, and broad company objectives. In this role you will integrate and develop engineering practices that meet business needs across the organisation, manage complex issues within functional areas of expertise, manage and develop teams, be involved in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall business technical strategy for simple and complex systems.

 

Job Description

As the Lead Hardware Electronics Design Engineer, you will develop and regularly review new electronic designs for control and imaging detection systems within the aerospace, defence, and maritime sectors, as well as supporting internal research and development projects. You will play a key role in ensuring designs meet safety and environmental regulations and best practice, working within a highly regarded multi-disciplinary engineering team.

 

 

Core skills

  • Demonstrable knowledge of electronic hardware architecture and design principles particularly around Microprocessors and Power supply design

  • Experience of printed circuit design principles

  • Experienced practitioner of CAD systems for schematic entry and PCB layout. (e.g. Cadence Allegro tools, Autodesk Eagle and PSpice)

  • Demonstrable knowledge of the principles of electronic hardware testing and diagnostics

 

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Relevant degree or similar qualification

  • Demonstrable experience in a project leadership or new product introduction role across the full life cycle ideally within a safety critical environment

  • Demonstrable functional and line management experience

  • Working knowledge of FPGA, PLDs, SoC design and verification for embedded systems applications

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and team-building skills

 

Desired Characteristics

  • Have a good Understanding of regulatory requirements for aerospace complex hardware design

  • Have an understanding of DO-254 as applicable to Custom Logic design and Verification

  • Have a working knowledge of regulatory and safety requirements for safety critical products (ideally gained in an avionics or similar environment)

  • Be able to strategically prioritises work

  • Be a strong communicator and share critical information

  • Be a critical thinker, analytical-minded and challenges existing processes.

 

Candidates must be a British National and be able to meet security clearance. Additional Psychometric testing may also be carried out with full background checks.
