I heard about the SCAN bursary from Elliot Morley, another employee of Delkia. He was also successful in gaining the funding for the IEE 17th Edition course through the National Skills Academy for Nuclear and he suggested that I should also apply for it.
What course did you take using the SCAN Bursary?
I have used the SCAN Bursary so I could attend the IEE 17th Edition course. The course is designed so you gain an understanding of how to use the BS7671 wiring regulations book competently. This has benefitted me when producing electrical drawings within my role as a CE&I designer. As well as this I am now more confident with assisting the Delkia technical team with installations. Being able to use BS7671 independently means that I can find the standards applicable to my technical drawings and produce them accordingly without needing supervision.
What impact it has had on yourself?
Since completing the 17th Edition course, I have noticed an increase in my confidence within my current role. The course has given me the knowledge to be able to use the BS7671 wiring regulations book meaning I can quickly and independently navigate to find what standards are required, without having to seek guidance from my line manager or another member of staff. This means that I am able to complete tasks in a shorter time frame and offer more support to the rest of the Delkia team.
How will you apply the skills you have learned to your business?
The skills I gained from the course are beneficial to my job role as it will be down to me as a designer to ensure my drawings abide to the correct standards within the BS7671 wiring regulations. As I will not require supervision when using the wiring regulations book, it will save time as I won’t have to interrupt another member of staff to seek help. This also means that the rest of the team are going to receive drawings and they will be right first time which means less rework which means a better result for the project.
Would you recommend the bursary to anyone else?
Yes I would definitely recommend the SCAN bursary. It has proved very useful, especially for SME’s like ourselves where funding for training can be hard to come by. I wouldn’t have been able to access this course without the funding. I am hoping to continue to build on the knowledge that I have gained through this training and apply it to course in the future.
