Pete Lamb
Technical Engineering Director
Service Overview
Pete Lamb served in the Royal Air Force for 23 years as an Engineering Officer, specialising in Communications and Electronics. He began his career as an Avionics Engineer, maintaining and modifying aircraft such as the Tornado, Typhoon, and Hawk. After completing his BEng and MSc, Pete transitioned into defence procurement, focusing on space and aeronautical capabilities—areas that demanded both technical expertise and strategic oversight.

Inspiration to Join the RAF
With both his grandfather and uncle having served in the RAF, the military was always a familiar path. However, it was the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology and travel extensively that truly inspired Pete to pursue a career in the Royal Air Force.

Career Highlights and Memorable Moments
One of Pete’s most memorable experiences was flying over Buckingham Palace in the back of a Red Arrow during the Queen’s official birthday celebrations—a moment that combined professional pride with national significance.

Transition to Civilian Life
Pete’s professional transition to civilian life was smooth, particularly because Delkia shares many of the values and standards he recognised from his RAF career. Personally, the adjustment was more nuanced. To maintain structure and a sense of control, Pete continues some of his military routines—such as ironing his clothes and polishing his shoes at the same time each evening. These small habits help ease the shift from service life to civilian rhythm.

Applying Military Experience in Civilian Work
Pete strongly advocates for military life as a foundation for personal and professional development. He encourages young people to seize every opportunity—academic, operational, or adventurous—because each experience contributes to growth in unexpected ways. His military background has shaped his leadership style and technical approach, particularly in high-stakes environments.

Core Values and Skills
The value Pete holds closest is the pursuit of the highest possible standards. He believes that without high standards, everything else falls short. This principle continues to guide his work as Technical Engineering Director. His approach is also governed by three key sayings:
-
“The standard you walk past is the standard you accept” – a reminder that your environment reflects your values.
-
“Sweat more in training, bleed less in war” – preparation is key to success.
-
“No plan survives first contact with the enemy – adapt and overcome” – flexibility is essential when things don’t go to plan.

Advice to Fellow Veterans
Pete’s advice to veterans is clear: “The values and skills you have are highly sought after—so don’t try to be someone else. Embrace your heritage.” He also offers a personal message to anyone struggling with the transition: reach out—support is always available.
