We have an exciting opportunity to appoint a highly motivated Principal Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team at Delkia.
Overview of the role
The Principal Electrical Engineer will provide support to the Engineering Manager. You will be responsible for producing engineering documentation and specifications for specific systems and conducting design reviews. You will be part of a team that has vast experience in electrical engineering systems with existing expertise in Power Distribution, Power Trains, Marine and Ship Distribution Systems including shore supply integration.
The successful candidate will develop designs including but not limited to schematics, vendor specifications, single line diagrams, LV / MV calculations, load schedules and systems performance specifications. The candidate will work in our existing engineering team with an excellent client focused work ethic.
Key responsibilities
Support design teams in the development of electrical requirements, loading and performance
Be able to mature designs for LV and MV systems including vendor selections
Understand the contractual and performance requirements for various systems and support the definition and associated acceptance criteria and events through design, build, integration, installation, and commissioning activities
Understand electrical interfaces and manage design architectures accordingly
Lead on projects as the electrical design authority and provide cost-effective solutions
Developing electrical design solutions to an agreed time, cost and quality in accordance with project milestones
Review relevant supplier documentation and ensure it is captured and recorded appropriately
Support the development of estimates for the scope of work and resources required to deliver it, to support bids, proposal development and project planning activities for various systems
Specifying replacement equipment/components and supporting the production of configuration documentation for permanent modifications
Responding to formal Technical Queries
Carry out modelling calculations using modelling software for verification on electrical designs
Desired Qualifications / Prerequisites
Qualified in Electrical / Power Engineering
Minimum 10 years’ experience in industry
The position requires a combination of strong technical knowledge, analytical and innovative skills, commercial recognition, and proactive project management
Ability to lead the electrical discipline on projects including budget & schedule control / monitoring and reporting
Proven ability for equipment specification and selection and in ensuring compliance from the suppliers / partner organisations
Support to wider business including technical bid analysis, vendor drawing review and attendance at Factory Acceptance Tests ( FATs)
Good working knowledge of Amtech, ETAP or other power studies software is an advantage
Good interpersonal, organization skills and ability to work independently are essential
Good communication skills both written and verbal and an aptitude for taking initiatives are essential, as is the ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams
Ability to manage relationships with key stakeholders
Demonstrable experience of engineering lifecycle
Knowledge and experience in maritime / naval / defence standards
Understanding of at least one of the following areas power system modelling; generators; switchgear; protection; power electronics (i.e. protection relays)
