We have an exciting opportunity to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Software Development Engineer to join our dynamic team at Delkia.


Overview of the role

As a software engineer you will be contributing to the further development of our capabilities in Software and Systems Engineering on a variety of Defence projects.


Key responsibilities

  • Designing and implementing software solutions (embedded firmware and desktop applications)

  • Deploying to Target Hardware

  • Configuring, releasing and deploying of the product

  • Developing functional design specifications

  • Investigate issues arising in the field or during testing and provide solutions

  • Maintaining and upgrading our existing software

  • Software testing, validation and verification

  • Actively participate in specifying solutions for business needs and contribute to the process of continual improvement

  • Develop software in accordance with requirements and agreed design, with consideration for software quality and future maintenance.

  • Ensure collaboration with other engineering disciplines to support requirements capture and testing of software, and to ensure an integrated approach to meet cost and schedule targets

  • Authoring of models within an applicable toolset

  • Ensuring software development standards, policies and procedures are adhered to

Desired Qualifications / Prerequisites

  • Engineering background in weapons systems or design

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline (Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or similar)

  • Proven skills in software design and development using: C/C++, C# Ada 95, Java

  • Experience in Real-Time Embedded Systems

  • A desire to learn new technologies and find creative solutions to complex technical challenges

  • Ability to create a collaborative team environment and facilitate communication of ideas in an inclusive environment

  • Ability to work accurately from detailed Software Requirement Specifications and to be able to trace requirements coverage

  • Ability to support testing and to resolve issues arising

  • Ability to develop software fulfilling requirements to optimise software for speed, memory constraints, maintainability etc.

  • Embedded – Real-time, target hardware, C & C++, Rust, RTOS (e.g. VxWorks, MicroC/OS, Embedded Linux), data comms (e.g. 1553, RS422) and networking. Frontend (C++ QT)

  • Distributed – Java, JavaFx, C++, C#, Python, Linux. Frontend (React/Vue, Javascript, C++ QT)
