We have an exciting opportunity to appoint an experienced Principal Safety Capability Engineer to join our dynamic team at Delkia.


Overview of the role

We are seeking an experienced engineer in configuration and data management (CDM) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in multiple aspects of CDM across sectors and products through life. This includes core CM functions of planning, identification, change, status accounting & verification and audit as well the associated data management experience in supplier data requirements, data stewardship, data modelling & data exchange. Knowledge of CDM Management Systems with a strong background in practical implementation of CDM practices. In addition the development of capability and architecting of the CDM environment is desirable in terms of people, processes, toolsets, training and information flows. The candidate should be conversant with various industry standards e.g. Def Stan 05-057, EIA-649C, BS EN 9223 and their implementation on engineering projects. This role requires a professional chartered with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) or equivalent and a Certified Configuration & Data Management Professional.


Key responsibilities

  • Lead the Configuration & Data Management implementation on project.

  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise on own areas of expertise, and develop own and others knowledge and experience to develop the capability.

  • Implement and influence the company CDM Culture and champion the CDM ethos.

  • Support Internal and client capability in line with Model based and digitisation strategies.

  • Integrate with Safety regime to demonstrate controls on product / service configurations.

  • Guide engineering teams on the integration of requirements into CDM system

  • Provide day to day governance in alignment with industry and client standards and practices.

  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, clients, and project teams to address CDM engineering queries and ensure that CDM considerations are integrated throughout project lifecycles.

  • Remain current of industry developments in CDM and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the organization and wider industry.

Mentor engineers across the discipline and wider engineering teams and contribute to their professional development as well as their own.


Desired Qualifications / Prerequisites:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering Systems Engineering, or a related field.

  • Chartered Engineer status with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) or equivalent.

  • Certified CDM Professional through NDIA, CMPIC, CMII, ITIL.

  • Demonstrable experience in configuration and data management, with a focus on the early lifecycle startup and implementation of CDM management systems.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to guide, mentor and develop teams.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a detail-oriented approach to CDM.

  • Flexibility to adapt to different sectors and work environments.

  • Preferred Skills:

  • Ideally Qualified Auditor with QCI /IRCA to ISO 9001 / AS9100

  • Experience in other relevant safety standards and regulations (e.g., ARP 4754 / 4761, DO 254 , DO-178C).

  • Prior experience in a leadership or supervisory role as a Configuration Manager.
