Service Overview

Sam served in the Royal Air Force for eight years as an Aircraft Engineering Supervisor (Avionics & Electrical) with 47 Squadron at RAF Brize Norton.

Inspiration to Join the RAF

Sam’s decision to join the RAF was driven by a lifelong passion for aviation and aircraft engineering. The opportunity to work directly with aircraft and be part of a highly skilled team made the RAF a natural fit.

Career Highlights and Memorable Moments

One of Sam’s most memorable moments was flying the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson at the time, to the front line in Ukraine just as the Russian invasion began in 2021. It was a defining experience that underscored the importance and impact of his role.

Transition to Civilian Life

Sam describes his transition from military to civilian life as challenging but rewarding. Once he recognised the value of his experience and how to apply it in civilian roles, he found a clear path forward.

Applying Military Experience in Civilian Work

Experience with the RAF led Sam into the world of engineering, project and engineering management. The discipline, accountability and resilience he developed in service continue to shape his approach to work today. He thrives in high-pressure environments, values clear communication and understands the importance of teamwork and trust.

Core Values and Skills

Sam continues to live by the RAF’s core values: Respect, Integrity, Service before self and Excellence (RISE). These principles guide his work and interactions, helping him stay grounded and effective in any role. His ability to adapt quickly and focus on solutions has been a key strength in his civilian career.

Advice to Fellow Veterans

Sam encourages other veterans to never undersell themselves. “The experience and knowledge you’ve gained while serving is hugely beneficial in the civilian world,” he says.

Final Reflections

For Sam, Armed Forces Day is a time to recognise and appreciate the work and sacrifices of the Armed Forces. Joining Delkia has been a positive step in his journey. He’s been inspired by the strong presence of veterans from all three branches of the military, which brings a unique camaraderie and shared mindset to the workplace. Military values like teamwork, leadership and resilience continue to thrive at Delkia—and Sam is proud to be part of that.
